Best Camera Images

A photographer I like to follow by the name of Chase Jarvis wrote a book called “The Best Camera Is The One That’s With You”. He mentions that “an image can come from any camera, even a mobile phone“.

Here are some images I’ve taken with my iPhone because it was the camera that was with me at the time. And the fact that “there’s an app for that” allows me to play around with images from apps that I’ve downloaded. So, it’s true, that an image can come from any camera, even a mobile phone.

Image from my Class Reunion…

Here’s an image I took from the Ashcraft farm where my class reunion was held last weekend. It’s located just south of my hometown of Newton, Kansas.

For some reason I had the opening scene of Motley Crue’s video “Dr. Feelgood” in my mind when I shot this, so I attribute it as my inspiration for this image.

Tear Sheet ►►► Heroes Sports Bar Ad in Naked City Mag

Here is an image I shot for Heroes Sports Bar & Grill to promote watching football at the bar. The thought was whether your team is winning or losing you should be at Heroes watching the game with your friends.

I used a 3 light set-up to photograph this image.  My main light was an AB800 fitted with a beauty dish positioned just above me and to the left. The other two lights were 2 AB800’s camera right & left, just behind my subjects for rim lighting. The big question everyone has been asking is how long it took me to Photoshop the popcorn into this image. There was no Photoshopping done to this image. My goal was to get it right in the camera. Cyrus, my angry popcorn thrower, had bowls and bowls of popcorn off to the side to bring into the shot to throw into the air. I took 10 shots of the “family” cheering and angry Cyrus throwing the popcorn. This was image #8 out of 10.

Carrie at Naked City did a great job of taking the image and creating the ad for Heroes.

Maternity Photography ►►► Danielle

Danielle stopped by the studio for a “belly” session since she is pretty close to her due date (I believe she said she was a week or so away). We were trying to find a place that had good window light but the weather had been spotty the past 2 weeks so I decided to create a window in the studio to shoot these images with. Danielle was an absolute hoot to photograph and I wish her a successful pregnancy. Here are a couple of my faves from her session…

Creating the window was pretty easy. Just some curtains from the Big Box store and then adding 4 lights behind for even lighting.

Here are handful of behind the scenes images from last weekends wedding of Brian and I shooting Sara & Jason’s wedding. On top of shooting the wedding we’re also taking candids of: test shots for lighting,  each other, goofin’ around shots and just plain catching each other “chimping” on our cameras. Enjoy!
