Sadie is not a dog that trusts people, especially strangers, and I was definitely a stranger to her. This image was taken in front of the home and she’s sitting on a brick wall. Some of the sounds from the neighborhood helped her keep her posture as she was trying to figure out where the barking was coming from.

A photographer I like to follow by the name of Chase Jarvis wrote a book called “The Best Camera Is The One That’s With You”. He mentions that “an image can come from any camera, even a mobile phone“.
Here are some images I’ve taken with my iPhone because it was the camera that was with me at the time. And the fact that “there’s an app for that” allows me to play around with images from apps that I’ve downloaded. So, it’s true, that an image can come from any camera, even a mobile phone.

I had the opportunity to photograph Roxie – a 15 year old Beagle/Blue Heeler mix. She immediately greeted me at the door with a very happy wag of her tail. That was good news as I knew she would be fun for her big photoshoot. I photographed her in her favorite chair and then we moved to the backyard where I snapped some of her on the deck and out in the backyard. She was such a great sport but eventually grew bored with me and was ready to see me leave as it was almost nap time for her. Her are my top faves from her shoot…

Today I thought I’d go see where Maggie has been hanging out while she’s outside since my AC is out at my house. With a little searching I found her in an old flowerbed that I don’t use anymore. Laying in the dirt is not my style but I have to admit it was a very cool place to chill… away from the sun.

Maggie’s pad

Trixie has to be the cutest puppy I’ve ever taken a picture of. And it was with my iPhone! She sat still just long enough for me to get this image. After that she was running around like a normal puppy would. She’s half Shitzu and half Chihuahua.

Playing around with my new Lowel ID-Light 100 Watt Focus Flood Light. These images are SOOC and the camera was set to Tungsten for white balance. I’m pretty impressed with the quality of light that this puts out. Something new for me to bring with me to the next set of weddings we shoot. Here are my trusty sidekicks Maggie & Steve allowing me to test out the light…
Maggie
Testing out my new Alien Bee Ringflash on my handy and always available subject – Maggie. I realized very quickly how powerful this light was as I’m pretty sure I blinded Maggie for about 5 minutes with my first initial shot. After a couple of adjustments I got this shot which is straight out of camera. I really like the color and contrast this light produces, I can’t wait to use it on a real person one of these days

I found a softball at Shocker Fitness the other day while running the stairs at Cessna Stadium. It had been there for a while so I decided to bring it home and add it to Maggie’s stockpile of toys she plays with. Here’s a portrait of her with her new toy…

I stopped by Frank & Margaret Home to get a bottle cap bucket from Emily for one of her projects and she had her new Pug (Eudora Welty) with her. Since I had just left the WSU Track meet I still had my camera with me and asked if I could take a couple of pics of the new puppy. And now, I present to you, Eudora Welty…

People have asked me how I did this shot so here goes… My goal was for the image to look like it came out of a photobooth that you would find in the mall or at the state fair. First, I needed a blue background and I happen to have a blue towel in the closet and I laid that on the back of the couch. Next was to get some shots of Maggie, then just shots of Steve and then add Maggie back into the equation while Steve was still up there. The trick for keeping their heads together was me lying on my back and using my feet to push their heads together. After making a bunch of noises and just firing a bunch of shots I took my favorites into photoshop for the final image below:
