Ken and I set up an impromptu photowalk this morning for around the 21st Street and Broadway area. About 20 photogs showed up for the 2 hour walk. Most of the people found out about our walk by being a member of our Facebook Group ICT Photowalks, Wichita Photographers page on Flickr or just good old fashion Twitter. Being a member is free, all you have to do is like shooting with your camera.
Thank you to those who went out this morning on short notice and here’s a handful of my images from the walk…

After talking with a couple of local photographers at lunch the other day I thought it would be fun to try out an idea we were talking about: what would happen if we tied disposable cameras to park benches in Old Town? I wonder what kind of pictures we would get? So with the help of my friend Ken, we set out 4 disposable cameras, tied to benches in different parts of Old Town. Ken shot these of me setting up:

I put the cameras out at 7pm and returned at 3am to pick them up. Only 1 camera was found as the rest had been taken. Keep in mind that I used Walgreen cheapies and one Poloroid for this project so it’s not like they were very valuable. I was pretty bummed but I did notice that there had been a a couple of shots taken with the surviving camera. So not to let any film go to waste I went on a photowalk of downtown with the remaining disposable camera to see what kind of shots I would get. A couple of things I discovered… 1) the last two images didn’t turn out. Not sure if that’s a nature of the beast for a disposable camera. 2) Lining up a shot thru the eye piece for proper composition does not translate well thru to the lens. You can definitely see that in the shot I took on the walking bridge over Kellogg. All in all it was fun and I’ll try to do it again.

I went downtown tonight to photograph parts of the Riverfest Block Party. Bad weather showed up and the party moved inside Century II. So, due to the rain, I decided to challenge myself to see where I could shoot from without getting my camera wet.
This was shot from inside a trailer doorway that was being taken down due to the rain.

I wanted an umbrella shot… so here it is

Decided to walk around and I really liked this dudes chair holders. Very patriotic!

There was something about the sniper hotel that made me want to photograph it. Then I discovered the eerie man on the 8th floor that seemed to be staring at me.

Today I met up with Josh, Jeremiah, Aaron and Andrea over by the Spaghetti Warehouse building for a downtown photowalk. We walked around the the warehouses and the area around the new arena and I think we captured some really fun stuff. Here are a handful of images from my shoot and you can find the rest on my Flickr page…

Amy D. coordinated a photowalk today at the Player Piano Co. on Douglas Avenue. A handful of photographers showed up to tour the 5 floors and the basement. Its an amazing place and there is so much stuff in there from over the years. Here are some images from my tour… (Here’s a link to see the rest of the images on my Flickr page)

I decided to take advantage of the snow that had fallen from yesterdays snowstorm and see what kind of winter pics I could come up with on another one of my photowalks.

Yesterday I met Cheryl aka Left Wing Lucy, who is one my Flickr friends, for a photowalk around downtown Wichita. The weather was really nice for a January day and the sky was really blue which allowed me to boost some of my images a little more for some added effects.
Here’s Cheryl posing for me in a parking garage as I was giving her an idea of where to shoot an engagement couple

Wichita received a pretty good snowfall the other night and I had felt the need to go out in it, freeze my butt off and see if I could find anything “artsy” for my portfolio. Here are some images from Naftzger Park, downtown Wichita, Keeper of the Plains, Riverside Park and pigeons hanging out on a bridge…
